The Weekend: Ivory sweater at South Coast Plaza

Never underestimate what a new little piece in your wardrobe can do. While strolling in South Coast Plaza a couple of weeks ago I came across this amazing white sweater and it was on sale, so I got it.

I paired it with all older items in my closet and just by adding the new sweater the whole outfit just popped!

A mix of old and new

The great thing about having a solid sweater like this in your closet is that you can pair it up with so many different dress shirts, you can experiment with bold patterns and colors. When putting the look together try and pull a color form you shirt to guide what kind of shoes to wear.

The details on this sweater are amazing and  even though is a heavier piece it still feels super comfortable.

I love the way in which dark denim and Ivory work together to create an awesome look.  The details of the shirt with the Ivory sweater make the look pop, give it a try.  Be well.

The NAVY CARDIGAN: “On Point” today.

I want you to start the week understanding the importance of a navy cardigan and how to use it. I got two for myself almost two years ago and they are my go to sweaters for any season. The colors that I picked where black and navy. Today I will talk to you about the multiple uses of a navy cardigan.

Navy Cardigan

car·di·gan

ˈkärdəɡən/

noun
noun: cardigan; plural noun: cardigans
  1. a knitted sweater fastening down the front, typically with long sleeves.
Origin
mid 19th century (Crimean War): named after James Thomas Brudenel, 7th Earl of Cardigan (1797–1868), leader of the Charge of the Light Brigade, whose troops first wore such garments.

Enough with the history class! I know if you are here you know that a cardigan is.

How to use a navy cardigan

1. To dress down a suit

Dress down your suit with a simple cardigan

After a long day in the office I love having a cardigan always handy hanging in my car because I know i can always use it in place of my suit jacket to dress down my outfit and get comfortable.

2. On top of a dress shirt

My go to sweater for the weather here in Newport Beach, Ca area as the temperatures usually are around 65-75 degrees so I like the fact that allow for more of my shirt to show, also I like to unbutton my top two buttons so this wouldn’t be possible with a crew neck seater.

3. On top of a t-shirt

Lastly, to run out the door and grab a quick item to cover you on your way to the movies or a quick errand. I am not a big fan of sweatshirt, I think they belong in the gym or outdoors in the woods or something. Maybe that is just me but If feel a card does the job and you also look much better.

Tip of the day: Leave your cardigan’s bottom button undone to give the look some character.

Hugo Boss: “On Point” with a Blue Suit and Two Ways to Wear It

Let me start by saying that this was one of my best buys of all time! I got my hands on this beautiful Hugo Boss Blue Suit at Macy’s in Mission Viejo. It was once of those crazy days when they have like sale after sale on top of a extra sale, you know when you can score something like this for UNDER $200 dollars. Yes Im not missing any zeros… a Boss suit for under $200. I’m good.

Now that I got that out of my head I can focus on what I wanted to share with you. I will show you how to style an amazing suit into two completely different looks in a flash. Let’s get started.

The Suit by Hugo Boss

The most important element to look your best is not the label or brand but THE FIT. Once I got my hands on this suit I went straight to my tailor and made adjustments to my liking. These included the following:

  • Taper the sleeves for a slimmer fit
  • Shorten the sleeves to measure
  • Bring it in at the waist for a perfect fit
  • Taper the legs bellow the knees for a more “bespoke” look
  • Add a cuff at the end of the pants

Adding a scarf gives the look an overall more stylish and put together outfit. A Salvatore Ferragamo Scarf does the trick quite well.

Look Numero 2

Here I give a totally different look to the same suit by changing the accessories. The secret to making this look amazing is to make sure that you match the “level” of each element to the other.

Braided Belt by Burberry

By changing the shirt to one with a pattern and pairing it with a beautiful Burberry braided belt I brought the overall feel down but still keeping it super sharp.

The white sneakers make this Hugo Boss Blue Suit pop, it provides great contrast and keep everything together nicely. Just make sure they are always clean!

How to ADD LAYERS to your outfits this winter season

With the temperatures dropping there is no better time to get a quick tip on how add layers your outfits this winter season. Using multiple layers not only will keep you warm but it is a great way to look awesome.

If you follow this quick guide you are guaranteed to look your best and stay warm this season.

A Perfect Rainy Day Outfit with Three Layers

The Three Basic Layers

Let’s focus on the Shirt, Sweater and Sport Jacket.

The Shirt

We will start with a solid colored shirt with a nice crisp collar. Using a solid shirt will allow us to get more creative with the layers and also keep the look super sharp.

My top two choices when it comes to the color of the shirt are: white and light blue. You can check a great article regarding the top 10 shirts to own from Dappered.com

The Sweater

Here is where I like to get creative but at the same time keep it simple. I like choosing a pattern for the sweater to give it some life. I don’t like to layer all solid colored pieces, it just doesn’t look as nice as putting some color and pattern into the outfit.

The Sport Jacket

A must have item in any men’s closet is a navy spot jacket. This piece can be used for multiple looks and its one of the most versatile items you can own. It can be dressed down or up depending on the occasion.

Here I’m wearing a cashmere jacket that is super comfortable and also looks great. Im able to use it on top of a light sweater for a more put together look.

Two easy ways to “DRESS DOWN” your suit on the go.

There are many times where I need to wear a suit for a meeting in the day but the rest of the day I really don’t need to, here is what you need to dress down that suit on the go.

Dress Down Your Suit With These Two Items

The versatility of both the vest and sweater have been for many years my go to items when in doubt. They can be used in many ways but one of my favorite is to pair it when I take off my suit jacket.

vest The Vest

Start by getting yourself a quality vest for these occasions. This item is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can ever own. I will not get into to much detail of how you can use them, but I will tell you to go out and get one pronto!

vest

Some of you may be wondering on the color, if this is going to be your first vest I will defiantly go with a navy color. This color will look great with most of your suits that you probably already own. If you don’t own a suit of you are in the market to get your first suit check out this article form Esquire. Assuming that your first two suits are a navy and charcoal grey this new vest will take your style to the next level.

shirt tie

The easiest thing for a lot of people would be to just take the jacket and tie off and thats it… but then you just look sloppy and everyone can tell those pants you are wearing belong with a suit jacket. You do not want to look that way, trust me.  Once you throw your vest on you have options: keep the tie or loose the tie, either way you will look great.

Shirt vest

The Sweater

The other must have item to dress down a suit is a cardigan sweater. The sweater will bring your over all outfit down and also keep you warm.

cardigan grey zara

This item is a must have and i would recommend having it in multiple colors. Many companies carry their own version of this classic sweater but check to an example form ZARA.

cardigan sweater zara

Go through you wardrobe and make sure you have a vest and sweater in there. This is a simple way to remain looking sharp after you take off your suit jacket. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

It started as just another hashtag

hashtag #superdad

What an amazing feeling to be responsible of such an amazing creature.

Social media is a hot topic as you may know, but more specifically the hashtag has become our way of categorizing ideas, pictures and all other type of media. For me looking back this last year the hashtag #superdad took the meaning to another level. I can’t even remember when I used it first, nor how or why I used it. Looking back through my pictures I saw a new storyline forming right in front of my eyes and that is what I want to share with you today.

In the beginning

The idea of becoming a father was always in my life plans, but in some way I look back and realized how fast it came. I had my first son just 2 years ago at 33 years of age and my life has forever been changed.

Amazing to spend one to one time with your family.

Through my lifetime I have learned to create and grow relationships and I’m blessed to have many great friends, but the bond I’ve created with my son is something that I can’t even explain at this time.

Now every time I post a picture of my kids or anything related to our lives together I use the hashtag #superdad and I mean it in the fullest of ways. It is a constant reminder of the reason of why I’m alive. It makes me laugh when things get tough, but honestly I can tell you I have enjoyed every little moment with them.

Take a quick look at some of these moments I want to share with you.
